Sunday is generally regarded as the most accessible song on A Thousand Leaves. It was first recorded for Richard Linklater's 1997 film SubUrbia and then re-recorded for the album. A radio edit went to modern rock, college and public radio in April 1998, and the single was released on vinyl and CD on 14 July 1998, with a Nirvana cover, Moist Vagina, among its B-sides. It reached number 72 on the UK singles chart.

Harmony Korine directed the video, which stars Macaulay Culkin. The band picked Korine for his work on Kids and Gummo, and Kids included several young actors who had appeared in the 1993 Sugar Kane video, among them Chloe Sevigny.
