At The Church Studios, Allison captured Pierce's lead vocal on a close microphone and on an ambient microphone positioned over where the choir had stood, so the voice shares one space with the choir and horns. It was one of two songs given the full split-mix treatment, with the middle choir-and-handclaps breakdown edited back to the full stereo mix before the band returns.

The single came out on 17 July 1998 with remixes by Richard Fearless and Two Lone Swordsmen. Spiritualized also re-recorded the song at Abbey Road Studios in early 1998, and that version appears on the Abbey Road EP of 14 August 1998. Pitchfork's Grayson Haver Currin wrote in 2010 that it was one of only a few songs from the album you were likely to still hear live. Stereogum cited it with "Electricity" as an example of Pierce's garage-rock interests.
