Cop Shoot Cop…

The closing track runs 17:00. It references lyrics from John Prine's "Sam Stone", with variations on a key line from that song's chorus. Pierce traveled to the United States to record Dr. John's piano and vocals, and Allison said Dr. John liked the track so much that he decided to sing on it too. Allison first heard the result at The Strongroom and called it spine-tingling.

Allison also described a lonesome trumpet near the end, recorded with the player at one end of the hall at The Church Studios and the microphone at the other end. He chose that over adding reverb later, because the natural space put the horn at the distance he wanted in the mix. Live versions of the song were on the June 1997 US promotional CD Supplementary Dosage and on the Electricity single.
