Sit Yourself Down

The second single from Stephen Stills peaked at No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 27, 1971. It has a gospel-based melody. Five backing vocalists, including Graham Nash, David Crosby, John Sebastian and Cass Elliot, join on the bridge and refrain, and the refrain is driven by Stills' piano. The lyrics deal with aging, maturing and settling down.

Billboard called it a "steady rock ballad" and expected it to follow the chart success of "Love the One You're With". Cash Box said it offered "a tastier sample of his vocal strength". Genya Ravan covered it on her 1972 album Genya Ravan with Baby, and Rufus played it in a medley with "Love the One You're With" on their 1973 debut album. It appeared on the 1976 compilation Still Stills: The Best of Stephen Stills.
