Green was written alongside Motivation Radio in spring 1977; the two were planned as a red album and a green one. Pink Floyd's Nick Mason co-produced it, the last outside record he worked on, with John Wood engineering. Hillage added a Roland GR-500 guitar synthesizer to his glissando and echo guitar, Giraudy played ARP and EMS synthesizers and a vocoder, and the album was split into a Green Rock side and an OM Rock side, the second opening with Unidentified (Flying Being). The first five thousand copies came on translucent green vinyl, in a John Michell cover of a fish shaped like a pyramid. It reached thirty in Britain. Team Rock and Malcolm Dome both named it his best solo album.
