"Lorelei" is the second track on Equinox, written by DeYoung and Young and recorded in 1975 at Paragon in Chicago, with DeYoung on lead vocals and keyboards, Young on lead guitar and backing vocals, Curulewski on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, and the Panozzo brothers. It came out as a single in February 1976 with "Midnight Ride" on the other side, and reached number 27 on the Hot 100, the band's second top-40 single, and number six in Canada. Record World called it a hard rocking number with overtones of The Who and the Raspberries.

Songfacts says it is about Young's wife Susan, and moving in together before marriage, quoting Young on the idea of cohabitation being looked down on in the old-fashioned world he came from; the title nods to the Rhine siren legend. That is a secondary source, and no primary interview was found. The band re-recorded it in 2010 for Regeneration: Volume 1, with Young singing lead, and in 2023 for Now Playing, with Gowan. Setlist.fm counts 897 performances, the most on Equinox; it was dropped from setlists in the late 1970s and early 1980s and returned in the mid-1990s.
