T.V. Eye is the third track on Fun House, running 4:17. Tangari of Pitchfork heard in it a paranoid snarl, with the band playing with deadly efficiency behind Pop's demented vocal. Lenny Kaye, reviewing Raw Power in 1973, still talked of a taste of the TV eye.
On 13 June 1970 television cameras filmed the band at the Cincinnati Pop Festival. During T.V. Eye and 1970 Pop leapt into the crowd and smeared peanut butter over his chest. Stiv Bators later said he was the one who handed up the peanut butter.
It appears in 112 of the 246 logged setlists with songs for Iggy and the Stooges.
Covers
Radio Birdman covered it on Radios Appear in 1977. John Zorn did it for the Elektra anniversary album Rubaiyat, and a group including Ron Asheton, members of Sonic Youth and Ewan McGregor recorded it for the 1998 film Velvet Goldmine. Spacemen 3 adapted it into OD Catastrophe on Sound of Confusion, and Michael Monroe recorded a live version in 2010. The main riff of Rage Against the Machine's Sleep Now in the Fire was inspired by it.
