The booklet says the concept was inspired by the short story Casting the Runes by M. R. James, with a nod toward the 1957 film Night of the Demon. Nolan wrote the lyrics. Most of the music is credited to Nolan and Pointer, with Kylan Amos writing Markings on a Parchment and Paul Manzi writing How Did It Come to This? and Unexpected Dawn. Nolan is credited with the Hitchcock Orchestra, and Amos supplied artwork and photography. Arena and Simon Hanhart produced, and Hanhart mixed and mastered the record.
