Burn Baby Burn

A bright-sounding song about a relationship slowly ending, named NME Single of the Year.

The second single from Free All Angels was released on 2 April 2001 and reached number 13 in the UK and 20 in Ireland. It began on the Nu-Clear Sounds sessions, and the chorus was reworked during the making of Free All Angels. It was first called Slow Suicide, but the label disliked the title and the band changed it at the suggestion of their agent. The song is about the slow demise of a relationship, and The Guardian's Betty Clarke heard the nagging guitar as the sound of confusion beneath a joyful surface.

The video, filmed in a school gym in Croydon, came out on 17 March 2001. NME named it Single of the Year, and Q picked it as its Single of the Year.

Ash played it on Later... with Jools Holland on 31 December 2001.
