The first single from 1977 came out in March 1995 and reached number 57 in the UK. Wheeler wrote it in a matter of minutes and it was cut over Christmas 1994 at Loco Studios in Usk Valley with Owen Morris. Wheeler said he had been listening to the Ramones all Christmas while watching a run of Jackie Chan films. The words refer to Chan, and the song was used in the advertising for the American release of his film Rumble in the Bronx and over its bloopers. Its intro samples the voice of Sammo Hung from Close Encounters of the Spooky Kind, which Channel 4 was showing in a kung fu season over Christmas.
NME made it Single of the Week. The sleeve pictured Eric Cantona's kick at a spectator in January 1995, and the track runs 2:17. It also appeared with Jack Names the Planets in the film Angus.
Live
It traditionally closed Ash sets in a two-minute rendition, and was later moved earlier in the show. On the Nu-Clear Sounds tour it stretched to about five minutes, with a DJ adding martial arts and computer game noises. Live versions are on Live at the Wireless.
