Feel Like Makin' Love

Rodgers began the words at nineteen and Ralphs supplied the chorus riff: a top ten hit in the US.
Bad Company, from Straight Shooter (1975)

Written by
Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs
Released
June 1975
Album
Straight Shooter

Rodgers started the lyric around 1968, on tour in California with Free. He told Uncut it grew from a trip when he hitchhiked to Rio Nido and camped in the woods with people he had met, saying: "It was a wonderful experience to be young and free in America in the '60s." Years later he played it to Ralphs, who supplied the big riff for the chorus. Kirke recalled that it came out of two songs, Ralphs's gentle D to G verse and Rodgers's riff, which he suggested combining, and that he added the descending figure in D.

Released as a single in June 1975, it reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 20 in the UK. Wardlaw ranked it the second best Bad Company song. Millie Jackson recorded it in 1976, Pauline Henry took it to number 12 in the UK in 1993, and Kid Rock included it on his 2003 album. Slash, with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, played it on the 2025 tribute album.
