Released in January 1980, Dark Entries was Bauhaus's first single for 4AD. It tells the story of Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's novel. Murphy said it was the first book with real substance that he chose for himself, a story of great narcissism, and called it a rock star's story, really. It was added as a bonus track to the 1988 CD of In the Flat Field. Early copies of the Bela Lugosi's Dead single carry a portion of the song's demo.
