Released on 20 March 1981, it reached number 59 in the UK and number 29 on the US club play chart. The title comes from a line in Jack Kerouac's Satori in Paris. On Mask it uses funk rhythms and saxophone. In February 1982 it was reissued as an EP, Kick in the Eye (Searching for Satori), with a mix in which the guitar is significantly louder. The EP reached number 45 and included Harry, a song from the band's first session in 1979, and Earwax. When Spin reviewed Go Away White, Barry Walters wrote that early dance singles like Kick in the Eye could give most current disco-rock trendies a smackdown.
