Ziggy Stardust

Bauhaus's cover of the Bowie song, and their biggest single.
Bauhaus (1982)

Written by
David Bowie

1982

Bowie wrote Ziggy Stardust for his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, recorded at Trident Studios in London in November 1971. Bauhaus recorded their version during a BBC session and released it in 1982 as a standalone single. It reached number 15 and brought them onto Top of the Pops. Ash said the band picked it because critics had accused them of copying Bowie's sound, and they thought they would do the opposite of what people expected.
