Momento was recorded in Rio, London and New York. Gilberto wanted to fuse the electronic leaning of her debut and the acoustic leaning of her second album, and London-based Guy Sigsworth produced four of its eleven tracks with her. She called the title song a secret letter to herself. The first single, Bring Back the Love, was written by Didi Gutman and Sabina Sciubba of Brazilian Girls, and Sciubba sings on Os Novos Yorkinos, whose title Gilberto cites as a tribute to the 1970s band Novos Baianos.
Caçada was written by her uncle Chico Buarque and takes the style of forró, while Tranquilo, by the Rio producer Kassin, is set against horns from Orquestra Imperial. She also sings Cole Porter's Night and Day. Christian John Wikane of PopMatters named Caçada and Tranquilo the peaks of the record and wrote that its mostly mellow mood might be little more than pleasant background music for some listeners.
