Tanto Tempo, Portuguese for "so much time", is an electronic bossa nova album produced by the Serbian producer Suba and co-produced by Béco Dranoff for Ziriguiboom, an imprint of Crammed Discs. Ziriguiboom was set up with Dranoff to present original aspects of Brazilian music to international audiences, and Crammed says this record brought it its biggest commercial success. Suba died in a studio fire on 2 November 1999 while working on the post-production of the album.
The writing credits show the mix. Samba da Bênção is by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes, and its backing track comes from Amon Tobin's Nova. The title track credits Bebel Gilberto and Suba, with a sample from Gilberto Gil. Mais Feliz has words by her friend Cazuza, So Nice is Marcos Valle's song, Bananeira pairs Gil's words with João Donato's music, and Samba e Amor is by Chico Buarque. August Day Song, Lonely and Close Your Eyes are among the newer songs.
The BBC described the opening track as a dreamy selection of sax and clarinet samples and drum loops set alongside real-time guitar and traditional percussion, and called the whole a quiet triumph. Pitchfork, reviewing her next album, spoke of Amon Tobin's work on this one as distinctive. By 2009 it had sold 309,000 copies in the United States, and its 2011 IMPALA platinum award recognized sales of at least 400,000 across Europe. Reports as of 2004 put worldwide sales above a million copies.
