Blue in Green is the third piece on Miles Davis's Kind of Blue (1959), where it is credited to Davis alone. Evans described it in the liner notes as a ten-measure circular form. He later said Davis handed him a sheet with the chords G minor and A augmented and asked what he would do with them. In a radio interview with Marian McPartland on 27 May 1979 he said he had written the music.

Evans recorded it with the trio on 28 December 1959 for Portrait in Jazz, credited to Davis and Evans. He kept it in his repertoire, and at least nine later unofficial recordings made between 1960 and 1979 are in circulation. Ted Gioia says he does not really consider it a song, calling it "more of a meditation". The jazz standard has been recorded by Fred Hersch, Cassandra Wilson, Kenny Burrell and Eliane Elias, among others.
