Oops!... I Did It Again

Max Martin and Rami Yacoub wrote and produced it, recording it at Cheiron Studios in Stockholm in November 1999, with backing vocals by Martin and Nana Hedin. It lasts 3:31, in C-sharp minor at 95 beats per minute. The lyric has a woman toying with a lover who mistakes her flirting for love, and the bridge breaks into a spoken passage that references the 1997 film Titanic. It reached number nine on the Hot 100 and number one in the UK, where it sold 124,000 copies in its first week, and it topped the charts in many other countries.

Critics noticed how close it sat to the debut single. Entertainment Weekly's David Browne called it ludicrously derivative of the first single, while NME called it a harder, carbon copy that is easily as good as her breakthrough single. Rolling Stone's Rob Sheffield called it terrific. Nigel Dick directed the video, shot on 17 and 18 March 2000 in Universal City, California, with Spears in a red catsuit on Mars addressing an astronaut who has fallen in love with her. The song was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2001 Grammys and lost to Macy Gray's I Try.
