Hairway to Steven

A spoonerism of Stairway to Heaven, released without song titles.
Butthole Surfers, 1988

Released
April 1988
Studio
January Sound Studio, Dallas
Label
Touch and Go
Producer
Butthole Surfers and Ric Wallace

Co-produced by the band and Ric Wallace, who also mixed it, the album was recorded in one studio in a short time. Pinkus said the band had been playing most of the songs for years before recording them. It made equal use of acoustic guitar alongside electric guitar, bass and two drummers, and it was Nervosa's last studio recording with the band. Each track was marked on the label and packaging by a cartoon rather than a title, so fans later worked out names by matching the songs to the live recordings on Double Live. Pinkus later said the better-organized sessions stifled some of the spontaneity of the earlier albums.
