Linda Perry produced it and plays piano, mellotron and bass, with Jim McMillen on trombone, Ray Herrmann and Glen Berger on saxophone, Chris Tedesco on trumpet and Nathan Wetherington on drums. Aguilera and Perry said it was a tribute to the Andrews Sisters' Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. It opens and closes with a sample from Tarzan & Jane Swingin' on a Vine, from the 1998 album Run to Cadence with U.S. Marines. Aguilera had told Seventeen it would follow Ain't No Other Man, but RCA chose Hurt as the second single, so this became the third, on 20 February 2007.

It peaked at 25 on the Hot 100, two in Australia and New Zealand, and 17 in Britain. The video, filmed on 28 January 2007, was co-directed by Aguilera and Matthew Rolston. She appears in three hair colors as a singing trio, a tribute to the Andrews Sisters, and it was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction. The song was nominated for the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2008. Reviews were split. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Scott Mervis called it the swingiest single since Brian Setzer jumped, jived and wailed, and Rolling Stone's Jenny Eliscu called it a dead rip-off of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Alexandra Burke released a cover as a B-side in 2008, and the Glee cast sang it in 2011.

Live

Aguilera first sang it at a London concert on 20 July 2006 before 1,500 fans and invited guests, and at the NBA All-Star Game halftime show in 2007.
