5 Dollars

5 Dollars was released on 16 August 2018 as the third single from the English edition of Chris. It was produced by Christine and the Queens and Cole M.G.N., who both programmed drums and played bass. The artist described the song as dealing with the kind of love you can buy, and told Pitchfork it is metaphorical, about power relationships and the money behind them. A moodboard of Bruce Springsteen and Arthur Russell helped the artist aim for a classic cool pop song that makes you want to cry but is also happy. The video was directed by Colin Solal Cardo and released on 17 August, and Billboard called it S&M-inspired. The song was performed on The Graham Norton Show on 19 October 2018.

Alexis Petridis of the Guardian wrote that the melody is perfectly poised between sweetness and melancholy. In Pitchfork's review Jamieson Cox quoted the line "Some of us just had to fight / For even being looked at right." It reached number 12 on the Flanders Tip chart and number 28 in Wallonia.
