Christine, the third single from Chaleur humaine, was released in French on 13 October 2014. Tilted, its English version, followed on 3 March 2015. The song began in English as Cripple, recorded for the 2012 EP Mac Abbey. When it was played in Brighton in May 2013, the chorus about enjoying being a cripple met an embarrassed silence, so the lyric was reworked in French for the album and a second English version was made from that. The two versions are not exact translations.
It was described as an easy song with an uneasy subject, about feeling out of place and not finding your balance, with the English title coming from the idea of tilting or being tilted. The video, in minimal blue and black, shows the artist and dancers performing routines on a platform, and the same visuals serve both versions. Christine reached number 1 in both Flanders and Wallonia and number 3 in France, and Tilted reached number 20 in the UK. Time named it one of the ten best songs of 2015. Elton John sang it at the Camden Roundhouse in September 2016, and the video was re-enacted in the season two finale of Better Things.
