"Tick of the Clock" closes Night Drive, a 15:39 instrumental written by Jewel and recorded in summer 2007 at Suite 304 in Portland; other sources say about 15 minutes or near 18. Jewel and Nat Walker cut it to roughly five minutes for the film Drive (2011), where it is track five, 4:48, on the soundtrack (Lakeshore Records CD, September 19, 2011; Mondo vinyl, June 2012). Director Nicolas Winding Refn chose it and "Under Your Spell" from Jewel's catalog because he thought of Drive as a fairy tale. It plays under the opening chase.
It also appears in Taken 2 (2012) and its soundtrack, was released as an Italians Do It Better single in 2013, and was licensed for advertisements by National Geographic, MLB, HTC and Fox Sports, among others, and appeared in some betas of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012). Nothing about session details beyond the Night Drive recording, chart data or live counts was found.
