Dear Sister

Her 2013 Compass debut: ten songs, the title track based on Civil War letters, and the source of an IBMA song of the year.
Claire Lynch, 2013

Dear Sister, her first album for Compass after about eighteen years and seven albums with Rounder, was produced by Garry West; the band was Mark Schatz on bass, banjo and percussion, Matt Wingate on mandolin and guitar, and Bryan McDowell on guitar, mandolin and fiddle. Wikipedia gives a release date of May 28, 2013, while Bluegrass Today said it would be out in April, with an unofficial launch before the IBMA's March 31 voting deadline. The studio and recording dates were not found.

It reached number nine on Billboard's bluegrass albums chart and, by Lynch's own account, number one on the Roots Music Report bluegrass chart seven times over about two years, and it was nominated for IBMA album of the year. AllMusic gave it three and a half stars; Songlines' Doug Deloach gave it three out of five, calling her one of Americana's most accessible voices while noting that long-term fans would find nothing new. "Once the Teardrops Start to Fall" was written with Craig Fuller, and "Doin' Time" is about arson.
