Don't Forget Your Neighborhood
The opening track of Prosthetic Boombox, a May 2021 single made with The Avalanches about staying loyal to the place that made you.
Cola Boyy, from Prosthetic Boombox (2021)
"Don't Forget Your Neighborhood" opens Prosthetic Boombox and was its first single, released around May 26 and 27, 2021, with The Avalanches. The Avalanches told NME they had two full-on weeks in an LA studio, and of him said, "He's just such an amazing dude, so smart and he's very political too." The writing credits were not found in any source reached. In his own words the song says, "Don't get lost in the petty capitalist dream that has us abandon the people and places that shaped us"; he named the Beach Boys, French disco, house keys and a hint of the Cheers soundtrack as influences, and said the masses of Oxnard are central to who he is. Bandcamp Daily hears electric keyboard stabs, four-on-the-floor drums and a stacked vocal chorus, turning the leave-home-for-the-big-city story around.
The video has a science-fiction teleportation plot: Cola Boyy presents the technology to a Zoom audience of The Avalanches, Sofie Royer and John Carroll Kirby, and Kirby is left behind as the others become animated. Setlist.fm records it played at Sound and Fury in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, on July 31, 2022, song seven of eight. No covers, samples or chart history were found, and which version our upload is was not established.
