Lady

The third single from Brown Sugar was co-written and co-produced with Raphael Saadiq. It reached 10 on the Hot 100 in 1996 and went gold with the RIAA on 4 June 1996. It was nominated for the 1997 Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, which went to Luther Vandross's Your Secret Love. Billboard's Larry Flick noted its you're my lady refrain and the interplay of bass and guitar.

Hype Williams directed the original video, shot in D'Angelo's hometown of Richmond. A remix called the Clean Street Version added the rapper AZ, and its Brett Ratner video featured Faith Evans, Joi and Erykah Badu, in her first music video appearance. Drake sampled the song on March 14 in 2018, and Eric Bellinger did the same on Curious in 2023.
