The album's first single came out on 29 March 1999 and was reissued on 5 March 2001. It peaked at 20 on the British singles chart and 27 in Ireland. The 1999 CD single carried Nightblindness and Over My Head as extra tracks, and the 2001 reissue added a strings remix. The booklet credits list Air Studios in London for recording and engineering, by Jon Bailey.

The Guardian wrote in 2010 that a whole generation of couples stared meaningfully into each other's eyes as they performed their first wedding dance to it. Pitchfork said it likely did soundtrack countless wedding dances, and that many drank alone to it.
