"Bell Bottom Blues" was recorded before Allman joined the Miami sessions, so Clapton is the only guitarist. He built the arrangement from several parts, including a sensitive solo and chime-like harmonics. Whitlock plays Hammond organ and sings occasional harmony, Radle plays bass and percussion, and Gordon plays drums with tabla and a backwards snare.

The song was first credited to Clapton alone. Whitlock said in 2011 that the omission was a clerical error, and BMI now credits both writers. Atco released it in 1971 backed with "Keep on Growing", and it reached number 91 on the Hot 100. A later reissue backed with Little Wing reached number 78. Cash Box called the single instrumentally enticing and surprisingly melodic, while Rolling Stone's Ed Leimbacher counted it as filler in his 1970 review. The Rolling Stones' "Soul Survivor" (1972) repeats the line "I got the bell-bottom blues". Cher recorded the song for her 1975 album Stars, and Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs covered it on Under the Covers, Vol. 2 in 2009.
