Doused
Track twelve of Oshin and the first song released under the name DIIV, on May 2, 2012.
DIIV, from Oshin (2012)
"Doused" is the twelfth track on Oshin, 3:42, written and produced by Smith, with Ben Wolf (Ben Newman) on drums. It was the first song released from the album, on May 2, 2012, the day the band announced its new name. The video, which appeared around September 6 and 7, 2012, has Smith relaxing at home and realizing the band is already playing at 285 Kent in Brooklyn, so that he runs down the street with his guitar to catch up, his playing and singing syncing with the band's; the sources do not name a director.
On December 13, 2012 the band played it on Late Show with David Letterman, its network television debut; Spin called the performance urgent, with krautrock-style interlocking guitar riffs, and Letterman said "Fantastic!". Setlist.fm shows "Doused" as DIIV's most played song, at 397 plays against 301 for "Under the Sun" and 230 for "Blankenship". No statement from Smith on its meaning was found, and no covers or samples. Which version our upload is was not confirmed, though the album version is likely.
