Waillee Waillee
Her second album, a 1978 private pressing of eight pieces for dulcimer, psaltery, voice and a few friends.
Dorothy Carter, 1978
It was pressed privately on Celeste (Celeste Recording 1004), with a later cassette on Rutman's Rutdog Records. Carter played hammered dulcimer, psaltery, voice, flute and piano; Bob Rutman played bow chime and steel cello, and Gail Edwards played tambura, slit drum, harp and bells. The engineers were Jeff Gilman, John Nagy, Rex Morrill and Steve Baer; the cover art is by David Zaig. The recording dates and studio were not found, and retail copy says only the title track is a full-band recording.
The 2023 reissue carries a twelve-page booklet and notes by Alexander Hacke, her daughter Celeste Carter, Danielle de Picciotto, Laraaji and others. The Sound Projector called it a true and unique masterpiece recording, and Chronogram wrote that it will live well on a quiet, early morning turntable in the winter weeks, starkly bewitching.
