Dusty... Definitely
With her first production credit, a loud side and a quiet side.
Dusty Springfield, 1968
- Released
- November 1968
- Label
- Philips
- Producer
- Johnny Franz and Dusty Springfield
Production is credited to Johnny Franz and, for the first time, to Springfield herself. The liner notes say she chose the songs because she liked them. The first side holds the fast, louder numbers, among them Ain't No Sun Since You've Been Gone and Take Another Little Piece of My Heart. The second side is mellower, which she suggested would suit listening at night, and includes This Girl's in Love with You, Morning (Bom Dia), Second Time Around and her version of Randy Newman's I Think It's Gonna Rain Today.
Madeline Bell, Lesley Duncan and Kay Garner sang backing vocals, and John Paul Jones appears as an arranger and bass player. The album entered the British chart in the week ending 21 December 1968 and peaked at number 30, and it finished eighth on NME's year-end albums list. Atlantic was reluctant to release British recordings, so it never came out in the United States. Tracks from it appeared there in 1999 on the Rhino compilation Dusty in London.
