Her thirteenth studio album, released on Parlophone in the UK and Europe in June 1990, followed her hit with Pet Shop Boys. Pet Shop Boys and Julian Mendelsohn produced most of it over about eighteen months in Britain. The Pet Shop Boys tracks, including Nothing Has Been Proved and In Private, made up the second side of the original LP. The first side drew on Andy Richards, Paul Staveley O'Duffy and Dan Hartman. Hartman produced Send It to Me, Time Waits for No One and Born This Way at his own Multi-Level Studios in Connecticut, where Springfield stayed during the sessions. They ran slower than planned because he was as fussy about her vocals as she was and kept stopping and starting her.
The album reached number 18 in Britain and sold 60,000 copies within two weeks. Reviews were very favorable. Two more singles followed, the title song by Brian Spence and Arrested by You, written by Rupert Hine and Jeanette Obstoj. It was not released in the United States until 1997, as Reputation and Rarities.
