Sea of Tears
Her third album: twelve songs with a rock edge borrowed from the early British Invasion, recorded and mixed by Chris Rival.
Eilen Jewell, 2009
Sea of Tears was recorded and mixed by Chris Rival at Middleville Studio in North Reading, Massachusetts, produced by the Eilen Jewell Band; Johnny Sciascia mastered it. Jewell plays acoustic guitar and organ and sings, Jason Beek plays drums and percussion and sings, Jerry Miller plays six- and twelve-string electric, acoustic and non-pedal steel guitar, and Sciascia upright bass and six-string electric bass. Johnny Kidd's "Shakin' All Over" and Loretta Lynn's "The Darkest Day" are covers.
Robert Price of the New Jersey Herald called it downright raucous by Jewell's standards. PopMatters's Ben Child gave it six out of ten on April 22, 2009, faulting the lyrics, and Rambles.NET's Jerome Clark wrote on June 13, 2009 that it is merely an ordinarily good album, an honorable but minor work; both praised the Lynn cover. James Bradley called it a corker, electric folk recalling the Dylan era.
