Moody

Recorded in one take in the first Hannett session, a club hit in New York and London and a Paradise Garage favorite.
ESG, from ESG (1981)

"Moody" was recorded in the first session with Martin Hannett, along with "You're No Good"; Hannett had about three minutes of tape left, so the band cut "UFO" next. Renee said they did "Moody" and "You're No Good" in one take. On Hannett she said they did not know who he was and he did not know who they were. All the songs on the EP are credited to ESG. It was popular in New York and London clubs, and many New York DJs assumed the band was from London because of Factory. The Paradise Garage listed it among its top 50 tracks, and it is described as a foundational house-music track.

The 1982 EP is titled ESG Says Dance to the Beat of Moody. Chip E. used the bassline in "Like This" (1985), and Christian Falk covered it with Neneh Cherry on "Quel Bordel" (1999). No account of the song's subject, no chart history, video or live play counts were found, and the version of our upload has not been verified.
