In the Can
Their second album: five songs, no keyboardist, with Louie Austin and John Acock as engineers.
Flash, 1972
In the Can (Sovereign SVNA 7255) has Carter on lead vocals, Bennett on Rickenbacker bass and harmony vocals, Hough on drums, and Banks on guitar and occasional synthesizer, with no keyboardist. Louie Austin and John Acock, who later worked with Steve Hackett, engineered it, and it sounds markedly better than the debut; Bennett wrote most of the material and Banks's writing credits nearly disappeared. The producer and studio were not found. It sold poorly. Its tracks are "Lifetime", "Monday Morning Eyes", "Black and White", "Stop the Banging" and "There No More", with the CD reissue adding "Watch Your Step", the B-side of the "Lifetime" single, and the single version of "Lifetime". An unissued original sleeve exists, with two copies known, one of which sold for 276 pounds in May 2014.
Background Magazine's Henri Strik recommends it for fans of Yes and of 1970s progressive rock.
