The words are by Cécile Caulier and the music by Jacques Lacome. Wikipedia says Caulier first presented it on Le Petit Conservatoire de la chanson and that Hardy then contacted her and offered to record it for her 1964 album, an account with no primary source behind it. It was a Disques Vogue single in 1964, produced by Jacques Wolfsohn at Pye Studios in London with the Charles Blackwell Orchestra, with "Je n'attends plus personne" on the B-side, and it closes the LP at 2:17. No chart position was found for Hardy's version, and none of her own words on the song turned up.

Setlist.fm has her performing it in Pretoria on February 26, 1968, on the same tour as Brighton, Southampton and Durban. Natacha Atlas covered it in 1999 on Gedida, produced by Transglobal Underground, as a single that reached number 16 on the French singles chart, and Jarvis Cocker recorded it in 2021 on Chansons d'Ennui Tip-Top.
