Vessel was released on Sub Pop on 30 March 2018, with Jesse, Being Alive and Apathy released ahead of it as singles between January and March. Greta Kline wrote every song. The lineup was Kline, David Maine, Lauren Martin and Luke Pyenson, with Alex Bailey playing second guitar on two tracks and Anna McClellan and Vishal Narang each singing on one.
Pitchfork's Jenn Pelly described an album less about the epic poem of New York than about how the brain and heart are connected by nerves and blood, and heard unvarnished indie rock a hair closer to punk. She singled out the line from Cafeteria, "I wasn't built for this world/I had sex once, now I'm dead," and the piano ballad Ur Up. The album scored 80 on Metacritic, and reached 9 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and 21 on Independent Albums.
