Fool

Fool is the third track on Next Thing. Pitchfork's Kevin Lozano quoted its line "Your name is a triangle, your heart is a square" as an example of how Kline gets closer to the feeling of naming the one you love than plain description could.

The Netflix series Hilda used Fool and The End, and around January 2021 the song spread on TikTok through the show's fans, which brought in younger listeners. Kline also wrote Uncrossed Path for the Hilda finale. Fool was one of five songs the band played on KEXP on 20 April 2016, and a demo of it is among the bonus tracks on the 2026 tenth-anniversary vinyl reissue of Next Thing.
