The album gathers two BBC sessions for John Peel. The first was recorded on 24 September 1989 and broadcast on 17 October. It holds Flowers, Blue Thunder, Decomposing Trees and Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste, the last voted number 41 in Peel's 1989 Festive 50. The second was recorded on 30 October 1990 and broadcast on 4 November. It holds When Will You Come Home and three covers: the Sex Pistols' Submission, Young Marble Giants' Final Day and Buffy Sainte-Marie's Moonshot.
Wareham named the Sex Pistols cover as his favorite, a song he and Krukowski had played since their student band. Yang said it sounded different when mixed by someone other than Kramer, which made her appreciate his production more. Mark Richardson of Pitchfork called the 1989 opening of Flowers and Blue Thunder breathtaking. In 2010 20/20/20 and Domino paired the album with On Fire.
