Dominion was recorded between November 2023 and December 2024, with Holmes producing and Rob Aubrey engineering. Holmes and Nicholls wrote all the songs. It opens with the 22:33 The Unknown Door, which Gary McKenzie of Prog described as a four-part suite whose parts are Faint Equations, Many and More Still, An Orbital Plane and Dream Stronger. It begins with a synth fanfare over a 1939 announcement of the declaration of war by Neville Chamberlain, heard low in the mix.

McKenzie found it a more accessible and digestible prospect than the double album Resistance, praised the development of Nicholls's voice, noted Holmes's unusually frequent acoustic guitar and likened One of Us to a Paul McCartney ballad. He heard loss in Never Land, written when Nicholls's mother had died a few months before recording began, and judged that the album offers alternatives of both light and hope. Alan Jones of Get Ready to Rock gave it five stars, calling it outstanding, ground breaking, emotional and superbly recorded, and praised Neil Durant as one of the most under-the-radar keyboard players around.
