Sinner
The opening track of Sin After Sin, written by Rob Halford and Glenn Tipton.
Judas Priest, from Sin After Sin (1977)
"Sinner" opens Sin After Sin and runs 6:45 in its studio version, written by Halford and Tipton. It became a setlist regular after 1977, and a live version of 7:31 appears on Unleashed in the East, recorded in Tokyo on February 10 and 15, 1979 and released on September 21, 1979, the first album the band made with the producer Tom Allom; Halford later said the music was live but his vocals were re-recorded in a studio. A review summary reports a Mexico-only single in 1981 using a live "Sinner", but that is unverified.
Reviews call it a rollicking opener, and one reviewer, Phil Aston, hears it as a showcase for Downing, but these are from pages we could not fetch. We found no comment from the band on the meaning of the song, no covers of "Sinner" itself, and no play count; Slayer and Halestorm recorded "Dissident Aggressor" from the same album, and Arch Enemy "Starbreaker". The YouTube title of our upload reads Official Audio, but it does not say whether this is the 1977 studio version or the live one, and we have not checked.
