Skenet bedrar

A 21-minute suite in five parts, composed by Hans Lundin, which opens their second album.
Kaipa, from Inget nytt under solen (1976)

"Skenet bedrar" opens Inget nytt under solen and runs 21:41 in five parts: Awakening, Bitterness, Hopefulness, Powerful and Misled, which Progarchives gives in Swedish as Uppvaknandet, Bitterheten, Hoppfullheten, Överheten and Vilseledd, though that is from a search summary. The title means roughly that appearances deceive. The music is by Hans Lundin, and the piece was recorded between June and August 1976 at Marcus Music Studios in Solna. Planet Mellotron praised the choir Mellotron in the third part, and Dave Smith in Background Magazine called it the album's highlight, hearing Focus, Fruupp, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Yes and especially Camel.

The English-language bonus tracks on The Decca Years include "Awakening / Bitterness", and the Musea CD adds a live version of 14:08. Setlist.fm shows the piece twice on the Kaipa page, including as the opener on October 25, 2014 at Musikens Hus in Gothenburg, and about ten times on the Kaipa DaCapo page. We found no statement from the band on its meaning, nothing on covers or samples, and could not tell which version our upload carries: the 1976 studio recording, the live bonus or a 2014 Da Capo performance.
