The six track titles read as a single sentence, the recording and production credits: recorded and mixed at Sound of Music in Richmond, with John Morand, assisted by Bryan Hoffa, with dulcimers played by Peter Neff and strings by Chris Johnston, Craig Markva, Jamie Evans and Jonathan Morken. Blast First and Kranky released it on 13 July 1999. Pitchfork's Mark Richardson gave it 5.3, wrote that subtlety was the name of the planet the game is played on, and praised the gospel-tinged third song and the treated distortion on the fourth. The fourth track, By Chris Johnston, Craig Markva, Jamie Evans, was used in The Young Pope. The band played the then-unreleased material under working titles in 1998 and at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis on 17 September 1999, opening for Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
