Honey Dove

A slow soul song that began as the B-side of the first Expressions single and became a set closer.
Lee Fields & The Expressions, from My World (2009)

"Honey Dove" was the B-side of the single Truth & Soul recorded with Fields and the newly assembled band; the A-side, per a MusicBrainz mirror, was "Do You Love Me (Like You Say You Do)". It also appears on Problems (2002) as track eight and on My World (2009) as track three in an extended version, with a 3:41 version on the Truth & Soul 45 mixes. The single's year is not confirmed, since the band was assembled around 2005 and Problems predates it. We could not find writer credits, recording date, studio or personnel.

Treble says it opens with a sugary, languid little guitar lick, with Fields sounding remorseful and washed in joy as much as limned with sorrow. Houston Press, writing about a show at the Continental Club in Houston on April 27, 2010, heard its muted watercolor chords rise to a climax along the lines of Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness". Setlist.fm lists it as the second most played song for the band, 53 times in 323 setlists, most recently at Cadogan Hall in London on January 15, 2026. It closed the show at the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington in February 2017, where Fields returned shirtless in a blue paisley vest, and a ten-song set at Cine Joia in Sao Paulo on June 8, 2017.

It was heard on Law and Order: SVU in 2011 and on American Dad in 2011. We found no chart history, video, covers or samples.
