Parallelograms was recorded in 1969 and 1970, over nine months by the Red Bull Music Academy's account and in the studio at Universal by her own, with no specific room named. Perhacs sang and played guitar and electronic effects, Rosenman produced and arranged, Steve Cohn played lead guitar, John Neufield flute and saxophone, Milt Holland and Shelly Manne percussion, and Reinie Press bass. Brian Ingoldsby played an amplified shower hose on the first track. She says about 70 musicians played at one Universal session for "Hey, Who Really Cares?", which had a television deadline, that Manne played a sand ashtray, and that Laurindo Almeida asked to play more and be double-tracked.

It was largely ignored on release. PopMatters' Michael Metivier gave the 2008 Sunbeam reissue seven out of ten. Tiny Mix Tapes' reviewer called it pure magic, and rates "Paper Mountain Man" among the least notable songs.
