"Mystic Bounce" is the fourth track on Shades of Blue, 3:56, a remake of Ronnie Foster's "Mystic Brew" from Foster's 1972 album Two-Headed Freap. The Los Angeles drummer Caitlin Moss, on musicto.com, hears a faster tempo, hand claps, background party noise and a repetitive kick pattern; NextBop hears the opening drum break kept, the bassline stretched and distorted, a chopped vocal sample and a rougher lo-fi texture. RapReviews' Matt Jost called it a cool block party.
The same Foster recording sits under A Tribe Called Quest's "Electric Relaxation" (1993) and J. Cole's "Forbidden Fruit" with Kendrick Lamar (2013), and the Vijay Iyer Trio covered "Mystic Brew" on Historicity in 2009. Foster composed the original and Madlib made this version. No recording date, personnel, video or live history was found; setlist.fm shows no performance of it.
