Epic released "Faster" on 31 May 1994 as the first single from The Holy Bible, and it reached number 16 in the UK. It is the only song from that album on the 2002 compilation Forever Delayed. Moore said the template was Faith No More's "From Out of Nowhere", while Bradfield cited the Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks for his vocal, which he described as a straight line through the middle of the song. The lyrics are by Edwards and Wire, and it opens with John Hurt's voice from the 1984 film of Nineteen Eighty-Four.

On Top of the Pops in June 1994 Bradfield wore a balaclava with his first name scrawled across the forehead, and the others wore military regalia. The BBC told the band that a record number of complaints, more than 25,000, had been received. The CD single carried "P.C.P.", "Sculpture of Man" and "New Art Riot (In E Minor)".

The Guardian named it the number one song in its 2022 list of the 30 greatest Manic Street Preachers songs, and the NME put it at number 217 in its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2014.
