Tracker came out on 16 March 2015, one day later in North America, and was produced by Knopfler and Guy Fletcher. It was issued on CD, double vinyl, a deluxe CD with four bonus tracks and a box set with a short film directed by Henrik Hansen. Bruce Molsky, John McCusker, Michael McGoldrick and Phil Cunningham joined the usual band, and Ruth Moody sang. It reached number three in the UK and number 14 in the US.
Metacritic gave it 70 from 15 reviews. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic gave it three and a half stars, finding it scaled smaller than Privateering. Ally Carnwath of The Guardian gave it three stars, calling it as much a collection of character studies as songs and Knopfler's music a reliable source of warm bluesy guitarwork. The tour ran from Dublin on 15 May 2015 to Fort Lauderdale on 31 October, with 86 concerts.
