"Mogwai Fear Satan" closes Young Team at 16:19, written by Braithwaite, Aitchison and Bulloch and produced by Paul Savage. The title comes from Aitchison, the group's only religious member, who feared the Devil because of his Catholic upbringing. It opens with a three-chord guitar riff played by Braithwaite and Cummings, with bass and drums fading in; the riff recurs, sometimes heavily distorted, and in the quiet sections Shona Brown, aged 13 at the time, plays flute over tribal-sounding drums, before it builds to feedback and fades to noise.

Pitchfork ranked it 160th on its list of the top 200 tracks of the 1990s, and Kele Okereke praised it in Mojo as really yearning, beautiful guitar music, by a search summary. The Mogwai Fear Satan Remixes EP (March 1998) has versions by Mogwai, μ-Ziq, Surgeon and My Bloody Valentine; the My Bloody Valentine remix is 16:10 on Kicking a Dead Pig, and Pitchfork's reviewer said it won in a landslide. F*ck Buttons covered it in 2008, first on a CD-R on a US tour together and then on a 10-inch for Record Store Day 2010.

It is Mogwai's most-played song on setlist.fm, in 855 setlists. A live version of 11:43 is on Special Moves and one of 10:26 on the 2008 reissue, and Braithwaite names it among the older songs he enjoys playing. It has been used in WRC 4, in The 11th Hour, and as the intro to the Manic Street Preachers' 2005 UK tour.
