stabilise
The lead single from Painless, released in November 2021 with the album's announcement.
Nilüfer Yanya, from Painless (2021)
Yanya and Archer wrote it, Archer produced it, and it is track four on Painless. It was the lead single, out on November 9, 2021. Beats Per Minute called it a post-punk track with textures closer to UK garage and guitars entering at 0:44 that recall Bloc Party and Interpol; NPR called it jittery. Yanya said she was really thinking about your surroundings and how much they influence or change your perception of things, and, of the chorus, that it is weird because the chorus is about going nowhere.
Her sister Molly Daniel directed the video, in which Yanya jogs past apartment blocks, dances in a club, rides in the back of a car and cycles through streets. Ellis Dupuy is credited on drums; one radio station attributes the breakbeats to Luke Bower, which is secondhand. Setlist.fm lists 87 plays, and it closed her NON-COMM session for XPN on May 5, 2022. Whether our upload is the studio single or a live version is not known. No charts, covers or samples were found.
